»Museum of the I«: Difference between revisions

This is a work about silence as an environment with a performative element. Its reference was Langmack's announcement in 2015 that he would tell his story. However, this took much longer than planned. In order to maintain his credibility, he remained silent until the end and as a result, he failed to master his subject in real life. This work illustrates contexts of ideas that he recorded along the way.

Residency

The ›residency‹ is a traditional form of art funding. An artist is invited to pursue their art at the place of residence for a limited period of time, free from everyday worries. Artists list residencies in their curriculum vita, because, like collections or exhibitions, they document their professional status. While in monastic seclusion, monastic life and its religious background serve spiritual experience or enable it for guests, in the case of residencies, guidance comes from the place and the conditions that artists who are granted the residency fulfill.

Omnipresence

The ›omnipresence‹ is the stay in a stimulating environment.^[1] It serves to detach oneself from social references and their place-bound nature. The environment in question is neither suitable for every person nor didactically thought through. There are no rituals of the kind that characterize monastic life, the monastery guest can join in. Omnipresence differs from the residence in that it is not aimed at artists. It also differs from the monastery in that it has no notion of otherworldly spirituality or its mission. No expectations can or are placed on the person. Omnipresence does not free from everyday worries; visitors have to bear the costs themself.
